Have you ever seen the intermingling of nature’s two most pristine rivers? Witness the most panoramic fusion when you cruise into the meeting point of Solimoes and Negro rivers. Be awestricken as you watch the photos of Amazon River, Brazil.
This phenomenon occurs about 8 miles from Manaus, Brazil. The black water is clear like coffee while the white river looks like cocoa. Although being so close and flowing side by side, they refuse to mix for several miles (about 6 km), but ultimately join to form the Great Amazon.
Both rivers differ in terms of water density, speed and temperature and this leads to the contrasting colors and temproral incompatibility. The Negro River is heavier, colder and slower than its neighbor and flows at 2 km per hour at 28°C while the Solimoes River flows at 6 km per hour at a temperature of 22°C.
