Recently the famous coral reefs of Cancun were hit hard by hurricanes. Mexican government took up a noble step to heal the reefs, in a very interesting way. They have set up an underwater sculpture garden that has proved to be a turning point for it. About 750,000 frequent here every year. Also, Cancun underwater statues have attributed in growth of new coral.
The brainchild behind this artistic and thoughtful move is Jason de Caires Taylor. Underwater sculpting is his area of specialization. Carved from real people, most of his figures are inspired by human beings. The material used in making the statues is inert, PH-neutral concrete, which doesn’t pollute the water and is a sea life attractant. These figures have now become a platform for various marine life forms. The underwater sculptures draw the attention of snorkelers and scuba divers which has eventually allowed the reefs some time to heal.
Today, this place consists of 400 effervescent and life-size sculptures. It stands as the most ambitious project ever executed for the underwater world. This Cancun attraction is a sight not to be missed!
